Chinese smartphone manufactures suspected for many embedding backdrops
Chinese smartphone manufacture have been suspected for many times for embedding backdoors in their smartphone brands like Xiaomi and Star N9500 etc.
Now, the China's third-largest and world’s sixth-largest smartphone mfr "Coolpad" has also joined the list.
Researchers have discovered a backdoor, named as
"CoolReaper" pre-installed on two dozens of Coolpad Android handset models sold exclusively in Asia.
The backdoor can let attackers to access various smartphone functions.
Threat. Millions of Android smartphones sold by Chinese smartphone manufacture “Coolpad Group Ltd” may contain an extensive backdoor named as CoolReaper". Using this backdoor mobile manufacture is able to track users, push unwanted pop-up advertisements and install unauthorized appls.
General characteristics of backdoor:-:
Download, install and activate unwanted Android appls without the user's consent or notification.Clear user data, uninstall existing appls, or disable system applications.
Connect to number of commands and control (C&C) servers for data ex filtration.
Send fake software updates.
Send or insert random SMS or MMS messages.
Dial arbitrary phone numbers.
Upload device info, its location, application usage info, calling /SMS history to Coolpad server.
